This album cover was one of the most challenging projects I worked on. It was done for a close friend who knew exactly what she wanted but had a hard time vocalizing her vision. She came to me with a mood board for inspiration, but little did I know that she wanted me to copy exactly what she was seeing in her heroes' album covers.
After a lot of back and forth and excellent patience with each other, I finally understood her vision. She wanted the cover to look vintage, like a CD from the early 90s or a vinyl record cover from the 80s. She really wanted to see a grainy texture with fog in the background.
The image she gave me was shot on an older model iPhone, so the quality wasn't the greatest. Removing the background was a struggle (this was before AI could do it with a click of the mouse or a swipe of your stylus).
In the end, this project taught me so much about freelancing and working with friends—neither is for the faint of heart. It led me on a path towards freelancing and gave me the confidence to take on projects that are outside of my comfort zone.
